Windmill Road

Today’s photograph comes to us from Kevin Hart. In the photographer’s own words:

The photo was taken at a wind farm in S.Ireland on top of a mountain. Permission had to be obtained because it was private and also dangerous. I will include this in the book of photos that I am at present shooting.

Lone Tree and Storm Clouds

November 8, 2006

Today’s awesome photograph comes to us from Chico California photographer Greg Coates of Divine Reflections Photography. In the photographer’s own words:

This photo was taken in Upper Bidwell Park, the city park in Chico, California. I hiked up onto a bluff where I spotted this lone tree in front of a dramatic, stormy sky. To top it off, it was one of the best years for wildflowers that California had seen in a long time, so I included some of those in the foreground. I got this shot just in time. The storm clouds dumped a torrent of rain just a few minutes after I got back to my car.

Refelctions Of Life

September 7, 2006

Today’s awesome photograph comes to us from world photographer Danne Eriksson. In the photographer’s own words:

Suddenly the sky opened itself and let down the accumulated rain from all summer. New York was flooded within an hour. Later that night, when I came to this crossroad just before reaching Times Square, a magical rainbow- colored light show appeared. So beautiful. Exactly like in my dreams and as it should in this city of light. I stayed for half an hour and took the same picture over and over again. I couldn’t get enough. New York – I love you.

I have been working with the concept “Today’s Picture” for almost three years now. It started out as a mailing list between friends and gradually expanded to a list with subscribers from all over the world. Today’s Picture is a reflection over daily life as I see it from any given place. During the last three years I have published pictures from Sweden (where I live), Eritrea, Guatemala (where I worked for two years) and USA (where I love to be). Please visit my Today’s Picture blog if you have a minute to spare. Enjoy! If you really have nothing to do on a rainy day there is also my other blog with only NY pictures. The concept is called “the city where nothing happens”. Yeah, right. 😉

Infrared Photography

July 31, 2006

Today’s awesome photograph is from me, Jim Cook.  This is an infrared photograph I took using a relatively old digital camera (Canon Powershot G1) and an infrared filter (Hoya R72).  While it looks like this photo was taken in the winter, it was actually taken in the summer!   There was some photoshop enhancements performed on the picture, like swapping the R and B channels, to improve the look of the photo. If you would like to see more of the infrared pictures I have taken, you can view this infrared slideshow.

View from Sausalito

July 12, 2006

Today’s awesome photography comes to us from Arnt Schoning. This late night picture was taken from downtown Sausalito, just north of the Golden Gate bridge. It shows a sail boat laying still in the moon light, with the beautiful San Francisco skyline in the background. It was taken just after sunset, on a cold and crispy summer night. Colors and brightness were corrected slightly in Photoshop. See more of his brilliant photos at
